Daniel Sergei
Sergei Mikhailovich Daniel was born on 20 November 1949 in Leningrad (St Petersburg). In 1977 he graduated from the Repin Institute of Painting, Sculpture and Architecture, department of Theory and History of Arts. Hold a Ph. D. in art criticism. He is the author of many books: “The Picture of the Classic Era” (1996), “The Art to See” (1990), “Biblical Subjects” (1994), Pieter Bruegel (1994), “Claude Lorraine” (joint authorship, 1995), “French Painting: a View from Russia” (1996), “Russian Painting: between the West and the East” (1999), as well as many articles on the history and theory of art. He delivered lectures in academic institutions in St Petersburg, Moscow, Tartu, Kaunas, also in Italy and the U.S.A. A member of the St Petersburg Union of Artists, International Association of Art Critics (AICA). Senior researcher in the Russian Institute of the History of Arts (St Petersburg), professor at the Repin Institute and the European University (St Petersburg).
